Music from the ’70s

Let’s take a trip down memory lane and reminisce about the Music from the ’70s!

“The 1970s created a perfect musical bridge from the rebelliousness of the 1960s and the happy songs that are characteristic of the 1980s.” (People History)

The ’70s actually created a trend of dance music as well as relaxing music. Other music genres of the 1970s include Disco/Club, Progressive Rock, Punk Rock/New Wave, and Funk & Soul.

People may have grown tired of the fighting that happened during the ’60s. Perhaps they sought a refuge in dance clubs and other places to enjoy a good time. Disco emerged during this decade.

Singers and songwriters were also popular during the ’70s…John Denver, Carly Simon, Elton John & Glen Campbell…just to name a few.

The 1970’s was not a unique decade in terms of creating innovations in musical styles and genres, but it was unique in that it was a musical bridge connecting the hippie lifestyle of the 1960s with the characteristic yuppie lifestyle that was about to occur in the 1980s.

Suggestions to add to this list are:

Bee Gees, Doobie Brothers, Simon & Garfunkel, James Taylor, The Association,
